Meet the Out of School Program Teachers
ECEA, Soccer Coaching & Summer Camps
Johnny is studying for his ECE at Capilano University and has over 20 years of experience working with children. He has worked as a support teacher for immigrant children to adjust to school life in a new country, in camps, and has run a language school and soccer club of his own in Japan.
Trainee Admin Lead
Vanessa is Studying Education at SFU, she loves working with children and young people and has experience working at Camps and with children with Autism. She particularly likes to be outdoors and to do crafts and takes her position seriously as an important role model in the lives of the children that she works with, which is consistently reflected in her practice at Sunflower.
Trainee Curriculum Lead
Picasso once commented on the artistic nature of childhood: “every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once they grow up”. When working with children, Amberlie feels inspired by their boundless creativity. One of Amberlie’s goal at Sunflower is to help continue cultivating an environment that encourages creative thinking and problem solving.
Amberlie holds a BFA in Visual Arts with a minor in Social Practice and Community Engagement from Emily Carr University of Art and Design. She is currently enrolled in a diploma program for Art Therapy at Vancouver Art Therapy Institute. Amberlie enjoys writing and illustrating stories, playing soccer, and gardening.
Out of School Care Assistant
Natalie has a working background in recreation & coaching and loves creative play. She thinks that fostering imagination and encouraging kids to express their interests is the best way for them to learn and grow! Her experience in recreation has taught her that every child’s needs are different; It has highlighted the importance of really listening so that as a leader and role model she can cater to each individual in a meaningful way. Natalie loves the outdoors, hiking is her favourite! She believes that getting outside is a good way to stay grounded. She also loves expressing herself creatively through art projects and can’t wait to share her creativity with the team at Sunflower.
Out of School Care
Kaelan has a BA in Psychology from SFU and has worked with children and young people for over 10 years. He has a passion for the outdoors, and loves camping, fishing, and hiking, along with sports such as boxing, soccer, hockey and basketball.
